The EHVSG was set up in 1991 to provide the opportunity for children and young adults from ages 6-16 to experiencing Scouting. The aim of Scouting is "to encourage the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people so that they may take a constructive place in society". The Group now has around 100 members and, unusually, takes both boys and girls. The Group runs the following sections:

East Meon Beavers Ages 6-8. Meet on Wednesdays from 6.00-7.00pm.

West Meon Beavers Ages 6-8. Meet on Wednesdays from 6.00-7.00pm.

East Meon Cubs Ages 8-10. Meet on Tuesdays from 6.30-8.00pm.

West Meon Cubs Ages 8-10. Meet on Tuesdays from 6.30-8.00pm.

Scouts Ages 10 -16. Meet at East and West Meon alternately on Wednesdays from 7.30-9.00pm.

Activities

Each section runs a full programme of scouting training at its weekly sessions. These include such topics as fieldcraft, map-reading, motor mechanics, cooking, first aid, etc. As well as indoor activities, the meetings regularly include outdoor activities such as night hikes, incident hikes, sports, orienteering etc.

In addition, each section organises an annual camp during the school holidays and often weekend camps too. A full part is taken in activities organised by the Petersfield District and Hampshire County Scout organisations, for example, sailing, camping competitions, assault course challenges etc.

Adult Involvement

In order to function, the Group needs the support of parents and other adults. Currently the Group has 15 uniformed leaders who have received training from the Scout Association and hold its warrant. They are assisted by a number of helpers, mostly parents, who regularly attend section meetings in support of the leaders.

The Group is controlled by an Executive Committee which is elected at the Group's Annual General Meeting each May. It consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, the Group Scout Leader and a number of Parent Representatives. The Committee runs the Group's finances, organises fund raising events and sets the policy under which the leaders operate.

To Join

To join any of the Group's sections, contact the Group Scout Leader who will be happy to arrange a trial session and discuss any questions you may have.

CAN YOU HELP?

The Group is always in need of various forms of support and would like to hear from anyone who can help with section meetings, fund raising or organisation. We are particularly keen to hear from people with past experience of Scouting, but don't let lack of experience put you off!

You do not necessarily need to make a regular commitment: even a one-off visit to a section to run a sports coaching session, talk about your job or give a demonstration of your hobby would be a very welcome contribution. Please contact the Group Scout Leader to make arrangements for a visit.
